Airstreams that were made in the 1940's, 50's & 60's are considered to be vintage in todays market. These are classics and stir a nostalgic sense of earlier times. When people purchase a vintage model they are looking for quality and the look. Older campers are normally composed of frames of wood or aluminum however due to low demand are usually inexpensive. (more than likely major work to restore these will be required). On the other side a completely done up camper will cost thousands of dollars. The internet can be a good source for finding vintage campers Google for "vintage campers" and you will come up with a very long list of results. (queries for "vintage campers" came up with 912,000 results on the Google search engine). You can find several sites that sell and restore these campers as their specialty. Along with numerous forums dedicated to discussions about vintage campers,there are also clubs dedicated to the restoration and use of these campers. There are several reasons as to why people use these types of trailers. For some people the classic look is high on priority, while some prefer the economical way to camp in comfort. Some people have no plans to actually use them and only enjoy the efforts of fully restoring them to their original condition. As far as vintage trailers are concerned, the Airstream is number one on everyone's list. (nd occassionally costs a lot of money). These were first made of wood in 1932 but later models were made of aluminum and can still be widely recognized. One of the higher quality trailers is an Airstream. Airstream campers have been produced for the past three quarters of a century and more than 50% of all Airstreams made are still being used. Sliver streak, Spartan, Alma, Avion and Prairie Schooner are some of the more popular vintage campers. Classic camping trailers are typically of a size that makes it possible for smaller vehicles to tow them. Because the aerodynamic design and even weight distribution allows it to be pulled with greater ease,but this is not because they are lighter weight. Do plenty of research before buying a vintage camper. If you are not a seasoned buyer, it is advisable to purchase a camper in the best condition that you can get. There may be more hassle than you can deal with when putting in all the work needed for a run down camper. To save yourself a lot of headaches be sure to work with a reputable vitage camper dealer. The people are knowledgeable and can provide key information regarding the camper you are thinking about buying, like whether or not the original pieces have been removed from the camper and what level of restoration efforts will be required on the camper. Before you purchase a vintage camper you first decide on why you want it and in what way are you going to put it to use. This will aid in deciding what size and model of camper will fill your needs best. To determine the condition throughly inspect the trailer inside and out. The condition of the exterior is expected to go through some wear and tear and a few dents here and there. However, its condition should still remain fairly decent. To make sure there are no leaks, you should ask the seller to perform a demonstration of the plumbing and refrigeration. Make sure you check the floors to determine if they or solid or rotting, in which case would be more work. To make sure that you will be able to tow it where it will be stored during minor repairs, all of the tires should be kept in an adequate condition. Don't neglect to inspect the hitch and underbody areas of the camper, to make sure that you have no surprises about the condition of it. The first thing you should do after purchasing a vintage trailer is to get it fully insured. It can be a truly rewarding experience owning a little piece of Americana. This is also a practical way to appreciate retro camping. If you have an affinity for classic vehicles, consider this opportunity for restoring and posing as a point of interest when vacationing. Just think about all of the attention your great vintage camper will get when you go to the campground and how much you will enjoy displaying it.
